Community mobilization and engagement remains a critical point of any health and livelihood service or intervention. Village Health Teams and Community Health Extension Workers are a structure to rely on and at Santé Initiative Uganda, we are committed to strengthening them through trainings on eye health and care services, while ensuring proper communication and flow of information. This is what ensures sustainability and client support systems.
Building resilient communities sustains community interventions. That is the spirit behind our eye-care outreach underway in Lungujja, Rubaga Division, Kampala, running from 5th to 6th June 2026.
What We Screen For
At the outreach, we are screening for common eye conditions, including presbyopia, myopia and hyperopia. Using our referral systems, outlier cases of cataract are being referred to hospitals and Health Center IVs for appropriate care.
The impact is short, mid and long term. Improving access to affordable eye care services to communities the vision remains clear. Steady on mission.

What the Findings Tell Us
The findings indicate that these conditions are prevalent among ages of 40 years and above. Most common occupations among those affected include fashion and tailoring, public transport providers, and business women and men in markets the very people whose livelihoods depend on clear vision.
Because community mobilization is not just about numbers. It is about building resilient communities that sustain interventions long after the outreach ends.
